What is Chiropractic?

The chiropractic profession is the second largest healing art in the world behind the practice of medicine. Chiropractic is a relatively new profession, having been founded just 125 years ago; however, the treatment it centers on, spinal manipulation or adjusting, has been used in healthcare for thousands of years. Most spinal pain originates from abnormal function of the spine rather than from disease of the spine. Accordingly, correction of spinal pain has to come from correction of spinal function. Medication and other similar treatments very rarely yield good long-term results with spinal problems. An effective spinal treatment program must be comprehensive, dealing with all aspects of the problem, and it must be primarily concerned with restoring normal function to the spine. Chiropractic treatment programs will address each area of spinal dysfunction with procedures directed at restoring normal function

The primary method of treatment is spinal manipulation or spinal "adjusting". The purpose of spinal adjusting is to restore proper movement and function to the segments of the spine relieving local pain and restoring proper tone to the nervous system. The spine protects the majority of the nerves that exit the brain and spinal cord to the body and has an important impact on overall health.
